"Is Exploring Bimini, Bahamas with a Golf Cart the Ultimate Island Adventure?"

During our recent cruise in March 2024, we had the pleasure of stopping at the picturesque island of Bimini in the Bahamas. With perfect weather boasting temperatures in the low 80s and crystal-clear turquoise waters, Bimini was a delightful destination for a day of exploration.

While cruise ships offer convenient access to Bimini, we discovered that it's not the only way to reach this charming island. For those seeking an alternative, there is a scenic two-hour ferry ride from Fort Lauderdale also available.

Riding the tram in Bimini, Bahamas

Upon disembarking from the cruise ship, we eagerly boarded a tram that whisked us into town. Thanks to some prior research, we knew that renting a golf cart was the ideal way to explore the island at our own pace. As we reached the second tram stop, it was impossible to miss the array of golf carts awaiting us. However, we were surprised to find that the rental price had doubled since our initial research, but nonetheless, we proceeded with the rental process, handing over $120 in cash (US dollars) for a day's use. No paperwork required, and we were off within minutes.

Our excitement quickly turned to mild disappointment as we realized our rented golf cart was showing its age and wear. With a wonky steering wheel making navigation a bit challenging, we couldn't help but wish for a smoother ride. Lesson learned: always inspect your rental thoroughly and don't hesitate to request a replacement if needed.

Setting off along the island's sole main road, we opted to explore in the opposite direction of Resorts World, a resort that seemingly sprawls across half the island. Despite the initial hiccup with our golf cart, our children reveled in the adventure, eagerly taking turns in the front seat. Since the cart was powered by gas, it offered a zippy means of transportation, allowing us to travel across the entire island in under 30 minutes.

Our journey led us to the tip of the island, where a breathtaking view awaited. With waves crashing on one side and tranquil waters on the other, it was perfect for shell-hunting and scenic strolls along the beach.

After a leisurely beach exploration, we made our way back to the cruise ship for lunch. While the natural splendor of Bimini's surroundings was undeniable, we found ourselves underwhelmed by the island's offerings beyond its shores. Nevertheless, for a one-time visit, the golf cart excursion proved to be a highlight (especially for the kids), despite the minor setbacks.

At the end of the day, Bimini may not be a destination we'll rush to revisit in the near future, but for a day of sun-soaked adventure and exploration, Bimini offers a taste of Bahamian beauty that's well worth experiencing at least once.
